Mobile Phone and Habits Modern Gadgets

Facilitating Communication †¢With devices like the cell phone, the BlackBerry and the laptop computer, people can communicate easily while on the go. Businesspeople can stay in touch with clients or the office while waiting for a plane or when in transit, which can increase their productivity. Parents can supply their children with cell phones so they can keep in touch with them when they're away from home. Texting allows individuals to exchange brief messages quickly without the need for face-to-face or telephone conversations. Shopping Habits Modern gadgets also influence how people conduct routine daily activities such as shopping. With the use of a computer with an Internet connection, consumers can easily compare products, gain a wide range of product information and conduct the entire shopping transaction without having to leave their homes or offices. According a 2009 Pew Research Center study, 80 percent of Americans age 33 to 44 indicated they purchased products online and 67 percent did their banking via the Internet. †¢Sponsored Lin †¢Health and Safety Issues oOn the downside, overuse of electronic gadgets can have an adverse effect on health and safety.According to the Med India website, a Carnegie Mellon University study indicated, extensive use of the Internet or playing video games can lead to social isolation and even depression. Stress levels can also increase, as mobile communication devices can make it more difficult for users to disconnect from work and find time to relax. According to the Washington Post, a 2010 National Safety Council Study indicated that 28 percent of traffic accidents in the United States occur due to people talking on cell phones or texting while behind the wheel. Inappropriate Behavior In some cases, modern gadgets and their associated technologies can facilitate inappropriate behavior. Online predators can use the relative anonymity provided by an Internet chat room to pose as a teenager and lure a teen into a potentially dangerous situation. Social media websites such as Facebook and Twitter can provide convenient avenues for â€Å"cyber bullying,† such as when teens use these vehicles to intimidate or humiliate other teens. Individuals may also use their cell phones to engage in threatening or harassing behavior via text messaging. Sponsored Links

Black Americans Essay

Firstly black Americans faced problems in the south because of lynching and the Jim Crow Laws. Lynching meant that racist white Americans would put the law into their own hands and punish black people whenever they please. They would hang the victim from a tree. In 1897 123 black people were lynched in the south, 84 in 1903 and 61 in 1921. The police would turn a blind eye and made no effort to stop lynching from happening. Even though slavery ended in 1865 black people faced the threat of violence, intimidation and racial discrimination on almost a daily bases. The Jim Crow Laws were created to keep whites and coloured people away from each other. The Jim Crow Laws covered all the aspects of life. Black Americans were stopped from using the same restaurants, hotels, libries, taxis, and even cemeteries. If black people wanted to vote the Jim Crow Law made them have to pass a difficult literacy test and they would have to pay high taxes. Nearly 2million black Americans moved from the southern states to the north in hope of a better life. This was called the Great Migration They thought they would be able to escape the Jim Crow Laws and racism as a whole, they wanted to go to the north for a better chance at jobs and education but little did they know. Secondly black Americans faced problems in the south because of the KKK. The KKK stands for the Ku Klux Klan; they were a racist group and were part of a secret society. The leader of the KKK in the 1920’s was a dentist called Hiram Wesley Evans whose name in the KKK was Imperial Wizard. Only WASP’s could belong to the KKK- White Anglo Saxon Protestants. The KKK targeted blacks mainly, but they also hated Jews, Catholics and Liberals but there main focus was poor black families that were very vulnerable. 5 million white Americans joined the KKK between 1920 to 1925. Most members where poor white people because they were afraid that black people would take over their jobs. Some of the KKK members were judges, policemen and lawyers. They would dress in white sheets and white hoods to cover their identities. The KKK used a variety of different methods such as intimidation, murders, raping, whipping, lynching, castration and tar burning. The Black Americans tried to fight back using non-violent methods. The NAACP -National Association for the Advancement of Coloured People- asked the president for new laws to help combat the KKK violence but received very little results. In the 1920’s Black Americans started to turn to the ‘Back to Africa’ movement which told blacks that they should return to their native America. This was started by Marcus Garvey but the whole movement faltered when he was arrested for fraud and sent to prison. In 1926 membership of the KKK dropped from 2million to 300,000 people. Lastly black Americans faced problems in the north because there was still racism around. Black people would be sent to live in the worst parts of the poorest cities. They were last to be hired and first to be fired from any jobs that they could get their hands on. Factory owners in northern cities knew that huge numbers of black people knew how to work well because of the slavery era. So they sent people down South to encourage them to take jobs in their factories up North with promises of good salaries. They wanted to add to the pool of white workers to keep down wages. So the black workers were encouraged to move North to compete with white workers. The white workers did not welcome the black workers with open arms because they naturally saw them as a threat. The black workers were willing to work for less money at least at first. So this led to racial tension. The white Americans refused to accept black members to protect the jobs. Another thing was that white neighbourhoods did not want poor black people and the problems that came with them moving into their neighbourhoods. It was a bad situation all around and led to much racial issues and even race riots These are the problems black people faced in the USA during the 1920s.

Discussion 9-12 Assignment Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 250 words

Discussion 9-12 - Assignment Example This minimizes the chances of ending up with a procedure that will guarantee the identification of a specific suspect in a lineup (Joycelyn and John). A probable cause hearing is in my opinion a crucial element in determining whether the requirements for probable cause have been attained in situations whereby a suspect has been arrested by an officer of the law, without an official warrant for the suspect’s arrest. I believe that this process is necessary in order to protect individuals from being arrested without sufficient evidence to suggest their involvement in criminal activities or arrests based purely on bad faith. Strictly speaking, vindictive prosecution arises when charges levied on an individual are motivated by vengeance. This situation is considered a violation of the Due Process Clause as outlined in the Fourteenth Amendment. The defense can overcome vindictive prosecution by pointing out the lack of sufficient evidence to incriminate the defendant, the unfair selection of members of the grand jury, variance during trial, and the prosecutor’s misconduct as an advisor to the grand

Business Law Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words - 19

Business Law - Essay Example is not improper to consider European Communities Law before Legislation and Common laws as sources of English Law because, European Union has progressively passed the right to create laws which have effects in the UK since it joined European Union,. Kelley and Holmes (1997) considered Legislation as the second source of Law because Parliament within UK is sovereign and can create or alter the law whenever it determines to do so. European Law has three distinctive forms namely regulations, directives and decisions. Regulations have immediate effect without out the need for UK to produce its own legislation. On contrary, directives are those that require specific legislation to execute the proposals. Decisions of the European Court of Justice are applicable all over the European Union countries (Kelley and Holmes, 1997). Parliament has sovereign rights and powers to make or alter laws if European Union institutions are sovereign in its boundaries. The laws that are formed by the legislature (Parliament) are known as Statute or Legislation law. A law which has been passed by the legislature and it has received Royal Assent, it is known as Act of Parliament and it forms to be the primary form of Statute Law (Gillies, 2004). There are various types of legislation and its impacts also will be different. For instance, public acts affect public generally whereas private acts affect only limited groups of the public. The Common Law is the body of principles that are developed by the Common Law courts of England (Gillies, 2004). Common laws are those legal rules and principles that are created and developed by the courts in deciding legal cases. The primary hallmark of the Common law is that it is made by court judges. They, rather than creating laws, find, observe, declare and discover laws from case to cases. Equity is considered to be a branch of English Law, supplement to Common Law. It has been established and developed hundreds of years ago when litigants went to

Family Relations and Dynamics Assignment Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2500 words

Family Relations and Dynamics - Assignment Example Family Relations and Dynamics There are various issues that have been characteristic of families especially when a critical analysis and evaluation lacks, these includes, domestic violence, child abuse, teen violence, suicide, aging, depression, divorce, and separation among others. Theses aspects have profound implications on the well-being of the family if proper management is deficient. In contrary, there are families that are characterized by peace, well being, mutual understanding, unity and being development minded among others. The foundation of such, in most cases is a key player in the way growth and development happens. There are four major aspects of critical thinking that makes a family develop the above-mentioned positive traits; these elements are sound reasoning, rationality, logic and constructive arguments. Research has pointed out various advantages of critical thinking in a family setup that drives a healthy family, contrary to which unethical and morally unacceptable happenings and mindsets ta kes toll. Various authors have put across their arguments and counterarguments concerning family relationships and dynamics. This paper will focus on some of the thoughts presented by various scholars, commentators, writers and analysts while providing a critical view of the arguments presented. The acquisition of this knowledge is very beneficial to every body since we are all part of a family; it is paramount that we understand the dynamics therein and have a defined action plan. A critical thinker is a uniting factor, promoter of the social as well as the economic well being of a family. Teens are part of the family; they are very explorative and are very much under the influence of the adolescent stage of growth. The ability to master the dynamics that accompanies this stage can help in facilitating growth of healthy teens that have a positive perception of life. In addition, they are able to overcome some of the pressures that come with the stage. According to Francine Kiefer a nd Neil Erwin of ‘The Christian Science Monitor’, taming adolescence in order to prevent related incidences such violence requires diverse interventions. They advocate for customized efforts that range from simplistic means such as giving rewards for good acts and the complement of good acts by demonstrating appreciation through a word of mouth. In addition, psychological counseling programs can be embraced especially for behaviors that are getting to be exposed publicly. The family is the ore unit that should look into this aspect; however, the community too has its input. Friends shape one’s behavior while the teachers also should embrace the same aspects to make the teens develop to overcome adolescence. The conclusive remarks that were made by David Osher, a researcher with the American Institutes for Research, depicts that there is a possibility of a complete transformation in teenagers if proper preventive measures are implemented. The two authors suggest t hat the convectional means of having to frisk students so that they are seen to be unarmed was an aspect that encouraged violence the more. A more close home approach that does not require much effort is the introduction of ‘red stickers’, communication tools that warn that doing something has certain consequences. To complement this strategy, the teenagers are allowed around twenty minutes in a day to learn social skills. It is reported that the best

A Report to the ABC Coal Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2250 words

A Report to the ABC Coal - Essay Example For this to be met, true partnerships and cooperation have to be created with everyone associated with the industry including the shareholders, employees, customers, and the community at large. ABC Coal’s strategies touch on ensuring safety environment performance and working in partnerships for good produce; creating a sense of value including the reduction of real costs and improving the industry constantly through giving the workforce the right support and encouragement. If all these strategic objectives are met, the industry would be talking of nothing but very minimal problems that will affect the overall performance. However, has the company achieved all of these objectives? If not, is it possible to achieve them? How can they be achieved? Taking consideration on the current workforce in ABC Coal, there are several questions that can be brought up, including how to ensure a balanced workforce with the right number of people in respective job roles to ensure maximum and r eliable produce. How can the industry prevent total absence of people in critical job roles that can affect the overall performance of coal production? ABC Coal anticipates growing and considers expanding the existing operation and developing new mines due to the increases in demand of the produce especially from India and China. This will lead to an increase in the workforce and hence productivity of the industry. The Venus Mine is a major mining field that can produce about 7.8 million tons of coal annually, which is exported to three major countries including Japan, Korea and South Korea. There is also an ongoing project called the Mars Project which is established so as to expand the Venus Mine. One of the key benefits of this project is an increase in job opportunities among income from exporting, revenue and significant royalties and tax from both the government and the state. This has also called upon more workforce to the industry which prompts strategic planning so as to ba lance the increasing workforce with the budget of the industry paying attention to the wages of the employees. Critical Jobs Internal and External Supply The critical job roles are those in which the people involved conduct the core duties of the industry, have a comparative large number of staff, require a long period of training to develop the intended skills, are difficult to fill, and the number of vacancies available for the job roles has been high for the past several months. Two of the most critical job roles in ABC Coal are the geologist and the mining engineer. Both of them take five years of training, which is the longest training period offered to the job roles. In the internal supply, both job roles have had the least number of retirements with no retirement with the mining engineer over the past two years. Looking at the internal supply, the mining engineer has a great demand due to growth of employment for this role. Consequently, the external supply for the geologist is also very high due to the assumption that there are very few geologists that are experienced in the nation. In the current workforce, there are job roles that have no vacancies at all. These are the positions in which the employees are readily available in the market, and they are not critical at all. Most of them fall under the statutory roles, and they include the mine manager, open cut examiners, the supervisor under mining operations and the processing supervisor.

Namesake Directed by Mira Nair Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words

Namesake Directed by Mira Nair - Essay Example Nikhil’s wedding plan makes a very compelling effort to show that they are Bengali, this vacation perhaps more than anything shows that while in the name they might be Bengali, their cultural and societal roots are fairly far from it. Paris is also significant for Moushumi, and it is more of a home for her. When Moushumi tells Nikhil the story behind her devastating break-up with Graham whom she loved passionately it causes a lot of insecurity to Nikhil.   She used to live in Paris and admits that if it weren't for Graham she would have never left. So not only is Paris not home to Nikhil but a place he cannot possibly like. This actually becomes even truer, later when Moushumi has an affair with somebody she met in Paris. When Nikhil later states that â€Å"his time with Moushumi seems like a permanent part of him that no longer has any relevance or currency. As if that time were a name had ceased to use" it is something which started here in Paris. However to blame Paris f or what becomes of Nikhil and Moushumi would be like trying to blame the stove for starting a fire. The stove was always there. Nikhil and Moushumi were always the people they were supposed to be. When Nikil’s mom could not understand, though she resigned herself too, later why Moushumi and Nikhil could not try and make this work like any Indian couple, she did not understand that neither of them was Indian, perhaps they were not completely American, but they had their own set of values. Nikhil is in Paris, the home of the people with liberated thinking, and in many ways, he thinks that he has a very liberated view too. But in many ways, he finds out that he is not â€Å"free† as long as he continues to divorce himself from his parents’ existence.   It is interesting because, here Nikhil is finding out, though not yet acknowledging to himself what his mother found out a long time back. For being a foreigner is a constant burden, a continuous feeling out of sor ts.

Choose a specific commodity, idea, or institution and evaluate its Essay

Choose a specific commodity, idea, or institution and evaluate its impact on history at any point prior to 1815 - Essay Example It gives brief information about the impact of gunpowder on history and also explains how it created gunpowder empires. This paper also focuses on the most famous Gunpowder Empires in the early modern period. The creation of gunpowder empires was considered to be a giant leap for Islamic countries towards stabilizing the politics and identifying themselves as territories. All these empires impacted politics and cultures of various parts of the world. Invention of Fireworks, which is led by Gunpowder in the 9th century by Chinese Alchemists as an elixir of immortality has largely impacted the entire world (Sivin, Nathan, 1994). Initially gunpowder was used in fireworks and pill-making process in the 9th century. When the formulae of gunpowder came to the strategists, they made it as a substance, which was explosive in nature. According to the Chinese formulae in the 10th and 11th centuries, Gunpowder was made with 27 to 50 percent of nitrate. But as time passed, the nitrate levels in Gunpowder was increased to large extent so that it could become an explosive bomb such as grenade bomb. When you read the book â€Å"Huolongjing† written by Jiao Yu, you can clearly understand that the nitrate levels in the 14th century were increased to 90 percent (Needham, Joseph, 1986) Most of the Islamic countries were also impacted due to the Gunpowder. By the mid of the 12th century most of the Arab scientists also acquired the knowledge on gunpowder. During the wars against Transoxania in 1219 and 1240, Genghis Khan used a Chinese catapult unit to invade Caucasus. It is not a surprise to say that the invention or introduction of Gunpowder had changed the destiny of many wars in the world (Khan, Iqtidar Alam, 1994). With the introduction of Gunpowder to Medieval Army, the facets of medieval warfare have been changed. The use of Gunpowder had been continued in the 13th, 14th and 15th centuries in

Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde Essay Example for Free

Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde Essay Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde is a popular novel published in 1886. this book related to many of the Victorian readers. During the Victorian period people lived two lives one side is the almost stiff powerful dull society with more concern of their reputation. However when they were in the comfort of their own homes, emotions which are ceased to be seen and bottled up in public are relieved by drinking alcohol, smoking socializing with friends and intimacy with a partner. Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde was a successful horror novel of the time, one reason for this is Charles Darwins theory of evolution. Most Victorians rejected the theory as it questioned their faith and powerful race. His theory raised a few eye brows and put many people on edge scaring them at just the thought of evolving from apes and even re-evolving back. Stevenson uses this public fear to shock and scare his audience with horror novel. Gothic horror was every popular around this time and Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde included many gothic horror features. Some of these features are ; mystery, Gothic architecture, death, decay and secrets. All these create fear tension and a good horror novel. A old dark dangerous London is a good setting for fear and action. Londons scenery was full of medieval and run down neglected buildings. During the day Londons streets are usually busy and booming with business although this novels settings is mainly set during the night early hours of the cold winters morning. back in these days streets were dark and the mortality rates were high. During the day the rough streets are shadowed by aged blistered and distained buildings, but in the dead of night these are hidden as there is nothing to be seen but lamps this creates fear and mystery not knowing what lurks behind the thick wall of darkness. During the bitterly cold nights what is normally full of people the streets are as empty as a church this emphasizes the silence and eeriness of the lamp lit streets, this also relates to gothic architecture. In typical gothic novels the weather is always dark and gloomy. London is already a dark dangerous city but to add to this its now draped in fog and with permanent bad weather to form a sinister London landscape. One street shone out in contrast to its dingy neighborhood. The street was a pleasant and well kept, however one building was quite the contrary, a certain sinister block of building thrust forward this suggests that the discolored blistered and distained building stuck out like a saw thumb. A main theme of the novel is opposites the contrast between nice and ugly. On the face of the building theres a door which was equipped with neither bell nor knocker, blistered and distained which seemed some what of a mystery. For many years this decayed building has been neglected its clear no one has lived there for years. The only company and treatment it receives is the tramps slouched in the recess striking matches on the panels, this is just another reason why people scurry past the square. The building is mystery to everyone local to the area the windows are always shut. Gothic horror novels use mystery and secrets to create fear and tension, this is a affective because the reader starts to imagine what the secret could be. They are often wrong but by picturing it, the human mind often over exaggerates what it could be maybe the readers personal fear. Stevenson does not reveal the secret until the end of the story however he drops in hints and clues so its kind of like a detective investigation. Hydes physical appearance is not disclosed for the first few chapters instead his descriptions are based on how he made other characters feel. This allows the reader to picture Hyde how they think of him, like always the readers imagination is far worse which makes the story interesting. In case of Dr Jekylls disappearance or unexplained absence for any period exceeding three calendar months. The said Edward Hyde should step into the said Henry Jekylls shoes with out further delay, there are two mysteries in this quotation, one being at this point Mr Utterson knows nothing about this Hyde character and has seen him a few time but only remembers him for brutally crushing a little girl. Both the reader and Mr Utterson are confused to why Jekylls will includes this stranger. The second mystery in this quotation is the strange unexplained disappearance of Jekyll, why would such high member of society ceased to exist? And what had caused Dr Jekyll to do this? Hyde is suspected to be linked in with Jekylls peculiar behavior, his barbaric looks and attitude have already gained him a bad name. that sawbones turned sick and white with the desire to kill him. This was a doctors view on Hyde, for a doctor to remark some one in Victorian times like that is a worrying thing as they saw gruesome things on a daily basis. In the opening few chapters Stevenson reframes from describing Hyde, he uses various characters reactions to portray Hydes repulsiveness. He was twice described as deformed He must deformed somewhere, he gives a strong feeling of deformity, although I couldnt specify the point. In Victorian times deformed people were pushed to the boundaries of society showcased for public entertainment as employment in the work place was difficult for them. But no-one dared put Hyde in his place, he was indescribable however when he was described .. the man seems hardly human.. .. Satans signature on his face.. this states his pure evil animal look about him. Hyde run down a helpless little girl with no remorse, Mr Enfield described this most unbelievable event to Mr Utterson, for the man trampled calmly over the childs body and left her screaming on the ground. it was hellish to see it wasnt a man; it was like some dammed juggernaut. Like hes some unstoppable force. Hes seen as hardly human. One of the Victorians greatest fears of the time was evolution Stevenson links Hydes primitive appearance and actions to this. The novel played one peoples fears and maybe opened their eyes to what could possibly happen. Violence can add an element of surprise, this tension could shock and thrill the reader. In a good horror story the reader is unaware who is to be hurt next, this creates fear and mystery. To create more fear the writer builds up to something where the reader is sure some thing is going to happen however it only builds up to a anticlimax, there are usually a few anticlimaxes before a brutal killing. It is possible for the reader to put them selves in the position of the victim, no-one wants to die an horrific death this can make the reader feel sorry for the victim, this can be most affective when the incident reflects a real life circumstance. Mr Hyde broke out of all bounds, and clubbed him to the earth. And the next moment with and ape-like fury, he was trampling his victim underfoot, and hailing down a storm of blows, this shows the true capabilities of Hydes animalistic nature. Ape-like fury relates back to evolution and how his behavior is no better than a ape, with a sudden burst of outrage Hyde beat a well respected old man to death with no emotion accept anger. Hyde is depicted as creature of great evil although we learn of only two of his crimes. Its the nature of both which highlights the violence against two innocent victims. The first violent act was against the small child and a the second a much beloved old man. These attacks were on both harmless beings which emphasize the extreme immortality of Jekylls darker side. Stevenson has created a tremendous amount of fear using the theme of duality, secrets, Darwins theory, and general gothic features. These would be less affective for todays audience. This is mainly because we have now accepted the theory of evolution and the possibility of having to sides to us. This will remain a well respected novel and if it was to be updated the idea of duality would have to be changed a little. The change between the two sides of a person would be random and the person would also not be able to manipulate the change, the character would also have memory loss each time he/she changes.

It would be useful for me as a guide in designing the website for Special Shoes for the current season. Currently, the few outstanding new ideas and old merge into one unique design, simple and seasonal tastes of consumers. Various fashions and styles for elderly, youth, teens and children in particular create the desire for fulfilling their tastes with competitive prices, allowing consumers take the time to surf the web and shop online at any time, because the shop opens 24 hours a day. Through these websites, consumers will also be able to get great discounts, special gifts from the famous shoe company and enjoy fabulous deals. TASK 2 PROJECT PLAN TASK 3 POWER POINT DOCUMENTATION Infrastructure limitations Despite infrastructure limitations in the Pacific, the target markets in developed countries are likely to be Internet users. Start small If unsure, start small. An existing website helps develop capacity to interact with customers and measure web potential. Lobby Government for effective IT Strategy. Lobby Government for effective IT Strategy that develops infrastructure and builds local capacity. Aware of channel conflict Channel conflict will not go away by itself, it needs active management. There are many positive examples today such as multià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â‚¬Ëœchannel strategies. Thank You Thank you and I hope this presentation can lead the business to success. TASK 4- MARKETING PLAN In this task, I will prepare a brief marketing plan for special shoes with some sample activities that can be done to promote new e-commerce services. Marketing plan is to assist in the promotion of special shoes E-commerce Services and give them a brief idea on how to promote it to a wider market. There are many activities that can be done to promote the website. We can put a few advertisements in different media to promote the website, as an example, we can make advertisements through newspapers, television, radio, posters, banners, face book, twitter, e-mail, blogs and much more. Despite the many ways that can be used for advertising through the video, but I see the use Youtube.com as blatant advertising medium of the best video so far. This is because membership of the millions of YouTube highly beneficial to your video advertising. Implementation of the various ways to promote the website to reinforce the existing customers is to make a variety of activities in it. We can tell the latest news and activities via e-mail by sending a brochure, newsletter or through social networks like Face Book, Twitter, radio and TV advertisements. To attract new potential customers we have a range of activities and events of interest and gifts to be given to potential new customers solely to promote e-commerce services. We can publish advertisements in local newspapers to introduce the website address there. We can also issue a set of pamphlets on special shoe shop as enhance the website addresses to be distributed to the shops or to the public. We can also use banner advertisements on other websites, but we must get prior permission from the owner of the website. Similarly, the bulletin board signs therefore, we can place our banner advertisements on all those billboards. In addition, we can diversify the latest designs and images to be loaded into the website, Blog and the social networking site in this way we will be able to attract customers to our website. There we will show our company name and address to facilitate our customers to browse and visit our shoe shop. By participating in the social networks, it can increase the networks list so that we can intentionally promote new services in e-commerce. But do not forget to set the face book or Twitter as a business site, so people can add to or they can just simply click the button like and we can have lots of friends list. By doing this activity, we can promote new services. Perhaps what is called a search engine optimization is a way to get subscribers to your blog or website from search engines to identify some specific way. Many articles written about this and quite pleased to be applied into your web page. But in pursuit of the highest ranking position in search engines, sometimes we over-optimize your blog or website so we can show as overly optimized. Perhaps the following points will make your blog or website we are considered over Optimize Repeating several times the main keywords in the content of our web site to increase the key word density. Using keywords in bold or italic writing repeatedly in the articles are written. Placing the reference is not related to the other pages in our blog or website. Select a blog that has links do follow we put our comments, so we had the opportunity to enhance our position in the blog search engine. Besides, we have the opportunity to add subscribers at our website. This tactic may be effective in the short term to increase the highest ranking, but it will not last long. Sooner or later the search engine robot will be able to detect this and when this happens its likely to be significantly affected. Thus the best place to follow the basic meanssearch engine optimization without excess. Another type of promotional activities is offline activities. Such as publishing advertisements in certain newspapers, to display banner advertisements on billboards, and distribute brochures or flyers at the store or to the public, include the address of your store site would have many opportunities to get more potential customers. Follow the events gathering bloggers and make as many acquaintances. Merchandise Create and share your website, or to share things of interest-free. Write articles to the media and ask them to list your web address Include your web address on your business card, if you are the seminar speaker, say the name and address of your web site. If you have a chance to speak in more general says the name and address of your web site! Another no less effectiveness way is to introduce addresses into the yellow pages directory, draw a map that shows where the location of your store. In this way, subscribers would flock rushed to your store. Special shoes may use information collected from visitors to the website for further marketing activities. With this information collected, companies can use the information to create new value for subscribers. The new value for subscribers is as offering superior subscribers history online reservations, reserve under the previous purchase and display the latest information on products in which subscribers may be interested. In addition, if the shoe stores to a special e-commerce service provider succeed, they must involve all approaches as enabling potential customers to find information easily and adjust the depth and nature of the information. With this approach may encourage subscribers to buy. Special Shoe Stores must detect and check the behavior of subscribers or visitors that they can use the information to provide customized, value-added digital products and services in their websites. Special Shoe Stores need to use technology-enabled relationship management tools so they can increase their contact with subscribers to succeed. Online chiropody services to assist in promoting the new site. This is due to online services can help subscriber on how they can select the right shoe for them to buy. Especially when the shoe stores are advertised, either through online or offline promotional activities, subscriber may be interested in by the advertising that display on foot care services. It can make subscriber want to know about the shoes they should wear. This service may attract potential new subscriber, it can promote the services of Special Shoe Store e-commerce. Conclusion Based on a strategic marketing plan to promote new e-commerce is not so difficult. As long as we understand the business consequences of this in detail, at least we should know our finances. Although there are so many types of advertisement, if we do not have enough knowledge about the right marketing plan and finance is limited, so we cannot do any advertisement. With extensive knowledge of planning and marketing plan and financial strength, I believe, with the ingenuity of this plan it may help us to promote our website. So we can easily select specific advertisement with creativity and advertising information. Therefore, a brilliant plan really gives satisfaction to customers and shop owners themselves. (1,173 words)Listen Read phonetically TASK 5 LOCATING E-COMMERCE SITE Introduction As we have discussed in the previous task, one way to ensure that the new e-commerce site can be quickly and easily found by prospective customers is by making sure the search engine will be able to find it and place it as the top of the search result. In this task, I am going to explain more on this topic. Basically, a search engine is a software program that searches for sites based on the words that you designate as search terms. Search engines look through their own databases of information in order to find what it is that you are looking for. [Wendy Boswell, (2011) http://websearch.about.com/od/enginesanddirectories/a/searchengine.htm] The search engine positioning concept Before we take a look at the importance of the search engine positioning, let me discuss about the meaning of the search engine positioning first. The first step is done by an internet browser to find any information on the internet is to type keyword or keyword into the Google search bar. If they press enter, all the articles in the web of the index in search engines, which contain the keyword in the type of internet browsers today, will appear in the result. Keyword articles and is an important partner in the internet marketing. The importance of search engine positioning The search engine positioning for your website in the search engine result is very important because internet browsers are really hungry for information, or information contained in the various fields. Therefore, to provide information or information in the article is one of the most effective ways to attract visitors to our business web. Among the reasons why the article became a key marketing methods used by experts and specialists is the first internet marketer. Our website will be in the index in a short time in the search engines. When we send the articles on our products or services to the article directories, spider, crawler, boat from a search engine will immediately visit our article and scan each item, pictures, links, words, paragraphs and what characters are there in our article identify the title, category, class, keyword, etc.. Then the information will be brought back to the search engine databases for the index to facilitate looking through the internet browser key word search. 3 suggestions on sensible domain names Domain name is the foundation of this website access to the Internet. When the search engine locates the website, it will search for the domain name first. A good domain name for the page can help this process. Choose a domain name with the host in particular, should focus on the image and quality. Search Engine Optimization laid a strong foundation for the implementation. If people see the domain name, they would know the company since the name is representing the business. If the domain is simple and clear, it will be easier to remember. In this task I like to propose some domain names, which are good, simple and easy to remember such as: www.Specialshoe.com By using this name public would respond quickly about our company. The name also has a connection with the companys brand. The name of the company may be strong enough to get potential customers. I believe other company may not use the same name. www.Shoeassorted.com These names have the potential to be brought forward. The words are very simple and easily remembered by the people who are surfing the Internet. This name also seems to reflect the diversity of products that people are very excited to find out. But most likely this name has been used by other companies from other countries makes the opportunity to gain new customers is very thin. www.Shoeexecutive.com This is also the best name we could use. The name is appropriate for companies and communities can be attracted. As the two domain names that are very simple and easy to find. The most appropriate domain name We recommend using the www.Specialshoe.com the most appropriate name for the page Special Online Shoes Store, because:- Since the domain name is the same as the name of the store, please can just guess the name of the website. Character is not too long, relatively simple to remember. Domain name can assist in locating site for potential customer Just like when we choose name for a shop, website name also has to be chosen carefully because its important to be clear and concise about the services that you offer to avoid confusion. The reasons are twofold. Firstly, if potential customers know what they are getting they will be more likely to buy a service from you and hopefully become one of your loyal customers. Secondly, the search method of the search engine will prioritized the domain name. Hence, with the good name, the website will be easier to be found. Conclusion With an understanding of search engine rankings and the importance of the right domain name and is also important to provide the best possible service to you and you will minimize the level of complaints. Remember to build your business that the companys warehouses are here to help you on the road to success. The non-geographic users instruction to help your company to provide National and feels professional, even when you are just starting. We can provide you with your domain names and web sites designed with both the contact page. This page contains the contact form to allow customers to send e-mail automatically with ease and speed. Make sure you answer quickly to meet the needs of your customers and develop a loyal customer base. Established well with it, letterhead and other items of identity will help your company provides a professional atmosphere and attract customers. All these elements are part of customer service. (932 words) TASK 6- EFFECTIVE SUPPLY CHAIN MANAGEMENT SYSTEM Introduction In this task, we will explain the different supply chain management system that can effectively help to ensure that customers e-commerce web site is provided with a high level of service. The product flow includes the movement of goods from a supplier to a customer, as well as any customer returns or service needs. The information flow involves transmitting orders and updating the status of delivery. Services designed to meet the needs of each supply chain relationships. From purchasing to issue directions to the door delivery of goods to customers, supply chain management services also allows for lower costs and provide a real service to customers and can be expected. Tracking deliveries Settings for your goods transport and logistics, so it sent the right way, play an important role in selling our products to customers. Customers receive a confirmation after purchasing the product. They are given directly to their code number to track the journey of their products until the product arrives to the customer. With this, customers will not feel cheated and are not afraid to deal with the company but will continue to subscribe to our company as a regular customer. Not only due to the satisfaction felt by customers, but will recommend our company to new potential customers. Stock levels Ensure and monitor stock levels are adequate but not too much because the products are feared to be out of date and we need to make new reservations when the stock began to decline after we make an inventory of the forecast calculation of that appropriate. By doing these activities the customer will feel more confident and believe in the strength of our company and become loyal customers as their demands meet. Demand fluctuation Total supply and demand affect prices, because if demand is rising while supply remains more or less, there will be a shortage of goods, if other factors are considered fixed, the scarcity of goods would lead to higher prices, or otherwise the price will be cheaper. Fluctuations in prices will be influenced by supply and demand, while demand and supply is influenced by purchasing power, substitute products, customer tastes, and so forth. Price fluctuations will have a balance point for the interaction between supply and demand. Quality of the Products Product quality must be very satisfying to follow customers tastes of what they have purchased. Products must be in good condition during the course of transmission. Products must conform to what the customer purchase, especially in color, size and style they want. When customers receive the products ordered, it must be in perfect quality and no damage at all. The World According To Garp Movie Report Essay -- essays research pape

It is very common to see a movie that has arisen from a famous novel, but there are some major differences seen when the transition from paper to screen takes place. The director of a movie has to try and fit a complete novel into an hour an a half to three our movie. Sometimes this adaptation works very well and the same points can be found if you read the book or watch the movie, but sometimes it does not work and some very major points and circumstances can be lost. In the World According to Garp the director George Roy Hill did a good job in fitting the major parts of the novel into the big screen adaptation. The movie, although a flop in the box office, received great reviews. One reviewer remarks, "The film bombed at the box office but remains an absorbing, if uneven work filled with intriguing--and eccentric--characters." (Jean Oppenheimer). The easiest thing to do when looking at the novel in comparison to the film is to look at what was left out. In Garp there were some instances that were changed for time sake, but nothing major was forgotten. The biggest change that I noticed when watching the movie is that they leave out all of the novels Garp writes. In the book we get to read passages from all of his books, but in the movie the only thing we know is that he is a writer and we never find out what he writes about. One of the major characters that was changed for the movie was a girl named Ellen James. Ellen James ...

Cheri Essay -- essays research papers

In Colette’s Chà ©ri, the main character Là ©a is a lustful middle-aged woman who has become lovers with a younger fellow named Chà ©ri. At the beginning of the novel, their relationship is portrayed as being thick with devotion and seems likely to endure forever. But by the end, the two have split indefinitely, leaving Là ©a with unanswered passion from Chà ©ri. What could have caused this relationship to crumble to the point of extinction, even while their love was so strong for each other? Là ©a’s increasing overconfidence toward her relationship with Chà ©ri leads to her hopeless state of naà ¯vety. She becomes so encompassed with thoughts of only Chà ©ri and that she would do anything for Chà ©ri, that he ends up taking advantage of her; in the process, however, he also robs Là ©a of her freedom to love someone else passionately.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Since Là ©a is a respectable amount of years older than Chà ©ri, she believes that it is her duty to have Chà ©ri taken care of physically and emotionally. For one, the age difference between her and her lover secures her in this thought. She becomes so confident in retaining Chà ©ri under her wing for six years, that she is bold enough to liken their relationship to â€Å"an adoption† (7). Là ©a, at times, even views Chà ©ri as her son and herself as the mother, and the distinction in their age clearly supports her theory. She recognizes though, and is even embarrassed to admit, that their relationship has gone on longer than it should have, longer than any she has ever had (7). Here, time alone contributes to Cheri’s emerging dominance. This blind sense of power that Là ©a experiences, however, leads her mind to return to a state of naà ¯vety. Là ©a is once again an adolescent but Chà ©ri is no longer her bachelor, rather, he takes on the role of her parent. At the moment that she feels as if the relationship is in her control, Là ©a unknowingly grants Chà ©ri the leadership to their love. When Là ©a is finally secure enough to admit that their love might actually last and that she is confident in keeping the controls, this is the point where she looses her hold on Chà ©ri, and he is instead dominant over her. Although Là ©a’s naà ¯vety leads to Chà ©ri’s supremacy, it is also due to Chà ©ri’s realization that he is a man capable of controlling women, especially vulnerable, older women that leads to Chà ©ri’s dominion. Since Chà ©ri is the younger of the two l... ...at his youthful charm has done the trick once more. Chà ©ri’s sudden departure for his wedding and at the end of the novel clearly shows his ability to control Là ©a. He is so powerful, in fact, that Là ©a is no longer able to love someone else passionately. At Chà ©ri’s primary departure for his wedding, Là ©a even has to lie about having a new lover; the love that she possesses for Chà ©riwas simply too strong for her to ignore, although she doesn’t mind lying to others to show a seemingly transitory recovery. She simply doesn’t want people to know that Chà ©ri has affected her, a courtesan. She wants to prove to others, though distorting it to herself, that she is capable of terminating her feelings for Chà ©ri just like he is capable of denying her as well. Là ©a’s strength is clearly also her weakness: although she possesses the ability to be confident and firm, her relationship with Chà ©ri has brought her confidence and willingness to the point of excess, and the boldness she once showed to others has in turn backfired. She is no longer dominant over Chà ©ri in the relationship, but only realizes this after he is gone from her life. She finally understands that he will be the last of her lovers.

The Depiction of Women in The Yellow Wallpaper and The Chrysanthemums

The Depiction of Women in "The Yellow Wallpaper," by Charlotte Perkins Gilman and "The Chrysanthemums," by John Steinbeck Identical twins have the same genes that make both of them look, think, and feel the same. Their likes and dislikes are the same; for instance, when one likes yellow, the other will like yellow. However, their fortunes are different; for instance, when one dies, the other will not die. Similarly, in literature, different authors have created a twin character in different eras. It is as if a second twin sister was born forty years after the first one was born. In "The Yellow Wallpaper," written by Charlotte Perkins Gilman ( 1892) and "The Chrysanthemums," written by John Steinbeck (1938), both stories are similar in characterization and setting. They differ, however, in their points of view and the symbolism. Each actual symbol is different, but its meaning is the same. Although they differ in many different ways, both show that being trapped inside an isolated house and having a limited life under a husband's control leads to a miserable ending of a woman's life. While Gilman uses a lonely, big house where her main character stays for three months, Steinbeck creates a small farmhouse where Elisa lives and works. This definitely addresses their loneliness and isolation. Elisa works in her flower garden in which she plants chrysanthemums bigger than anyone does in the Salinas Valley. She works alone in her small garden that is surrounded with a "wire fence" to protect from "cattle and dogs and chickens" (Steinbeck 503). She lives in a small farmhouse that is far away from other houses, which makes her feel as if she is isolated from her society. Steinbeck sets the Salinas Valley as if it is also isola... ...eir messages of the stories are the same. So now, just think about why they have many similar thoughts toward women. Rheumatoid Arthritis Essay

Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) belongs to a class of autoimmune disorders that cause chronic joint inflammation as well as inflammation of the tissues surrounding the joints (Goronzy & Weyand, 2001, p. 55). Other organs in the body are also affected when the cells fail to differentiate self from non-self. The failure of the immune cells to differentiate the body’s own cells from the foreign or intruding cells leads to autoimmunity where the immune cells attack the body’s own cells. Usually, the immune system is organized in a way that it seeks and destroys the body’s invaders particular the pathogens. The antibodies in patients with autoimmune diseases always target the body’s own tissues and cause inflammation. The effects resulting from the self-attack spreads to multiple body organs and this condition is commonly referred to as rheumatic arthritis (Arthritis Foundation, 2010). Epidemiology Rheumatoid arthritis is perhaps the commonest of all rheumatoid diseases and it affects about 1. 3 million people in the U. S alone (Arthritis Foundation, 2010). Women are three times as riskier than men to be afflicted by the disease although the disease is common among all races in equal magnitude (Clair, Pisetsky, & Haynes, 2001, p. 1). The numbers of women suffering from rheumatoid arthritis are currently on the increase despite the recorded decline in numbers a few decades ago. The use of contraceptive pills containing insufficient estrogen as birth control measures has been blamed for the reduced immunity among women thus the increased cases of RA (Clair, Pisetsky, & Haynes, 2001, p. 5). Environmental factors such as cigarette smoking are also to blame for the increase in disease cases among women. Although the general smoking rates have declined in the United States, the rates of women smokers, separately considered, have not declined though. While genetic factors such as the role of human leukocyte antigen (HLA) DRB1 alleles have for long been suspected to cause aberrations in proteins in immune cells, this has not been proved yet (Clair, Pisetsky, & Haynes, 2001, p. 5). The risk among women has also been linked to the deficiency of vitamin D. Rheumatoid arthritis usually afflicts individuals of a wide range of ages although it is commonly begins after one has attained the age of 40 although it is rare beyond the age of 60 (Silman & Pearson, 2002, p. 267). It has also been shown that rheumatoid arthritis can occur in multiple members of the same family. This observation suggests the propensity that the disease is inheritable (Goronzy & Weyand, 2001, p. 55). A specific gene is suspected to be the underlying reason for the strange behavior of the immune cells attacking the body’s own cells. Pathophysiology and Pathogenesis Arthritis refers to some form of inflammation that occurs at the joints. Joints are points where two bones join each other and are critical for locomotion process. Rheumatoid arthritis results to the inflammation of the joint which is accompanied with severe pain, swelling, redness and stiffness in the joints. Rheumatoid arthritis can also lead to severe inflammation in tissues surrounding the joints such as ligaments, tendons and muscles. Chronic inflammation in some patients with rheumatoid arthritis can result into complete destruction of the bones, cartilage and ligaments thus leading to serious joint deformities. Usually, destruction of the joints can occur in early stages if development but gets worse as one advances in age (Arthritis Foundation, 2010). The main cause of RA is not well known although bacteria, viruses and fungi have for long been in the suspect list without any of the biological agents been proved. As for this reason, intensive research efforts are being invested in the identification of the causal agents for RA. Genetic causes and environmental infectious agents have been associated with the deranged immune system which goes out of control and attacks the body’s own cells (Goronzy & Weyand, 2001, p. 55). The deranged immune system results into massive joint and organ inflammation which leads to rheumatoid arthritis. The common organs affected include the eyes and the lungs. Specifically, the activation of lymphocytes marks the start of the process of inflammation. In the inflamed cells, a number of chemical messengers are expressed including the interleukin-1 (IL-1), interleukin-6 (IL-6) and tumor necrosis factor (TNF) (Gupta & Fomberstein, 2002, p. 3). Symptoms of Rheumatoid Arthritis Patients suffering from rheumatoid arthritis experience episodic inflammatory symptoms depending on the extent of individual tissue inflammation. The disease is overly active following extensive tissue inflammation and becomes inactive after inflammation has subsided. The condition undergoes remission following treatment or spontaneously and this can last for several days to years. In remission stage, patients feel well again until the conditions flares (return of symptoms and course of the disease). Active symptoms of RA include energy loss, lack of appetite, fatigue, joint and muscle pain, stiffness and low-grade fever. The reddening and swelling of the joints at the point of inflammation is indicative of RA. The joints also become tender and overly painful and the synovium, which is the tissue lining the joints, gets inflamed leading to overproduction of joint fluids or synovial fluid (Clair, Pisetsky, & Haynes, 2001, p. 26). The inflammation of the synovium (synovitis) results mainly from its thickening. A number of organs and other body parts are affected in rheumatoid arthritis because the disease is a systemic condition. Specifically, the disease affects several body joints which are inflamed in a symmetrical manner mainly involving the small joints of the wrist and the hands (Clair, Pisetsky, & Haynes, 2001, p. 12). The wrists and the hands are affected and the patients afflicted by the disease get it difficult to even open jars and turn door knobs. RA also affects a number of small joints of the feet. However, when a single joint is affected, the arthritis presents as joint infection or gout. Damage to tissues, bones and cartilages results from chromic inflammation and this can eventually lead to a complete cartilage loss and bone and muscle weaknesses and erosion. Joints will become deformed, destroyed or may completely lose function. The vocal cords can be affected to a level of influencing the voice tone. The effect to the cricoarytenoid joint has been suggested to influence the voice tone and cause voice hoarseness of the afflicted individuals. Inflammation of the glands located in the mouth and eyes often cause dryness, a condition known as Sjogren’s syndrome. Chest pain associated with shortness of breath, deep breathing or coughing results from pleuritis or the inflammation of the linings of the lungs (Clair, Pisetsky, & Haynes, 2001, p. 18). Lungs tissues may become scarred, inflamed or rheumatoid nodules may form in the lungs. The pericardium or the tissues that surround the heart may become inflamed (pericarditis) and lead to massive chest pain especially when afflicted individuals lean forward or lie down (Clair, Pisetsky, & Haynes, 2001, p. 19). The total erythrocytes and leucocytes count immensely reduces and a reduction in red blood cells leads to anemia while a decrease in leucocytes results to the enlargement of the spleen, a condition known as the Felty’s syndrome (Clair, Pisetsky, & Haynes, 2001, p. 17). The region around the fingers and elbows may experience firm lumps known as the rheumatoid nodules (Clair, Pisetsky, & Haynes, 2001, p. 16). While rheumatoid nodules do not lead to any significant symptoms, they can be infected occasionally. In RA patients, the nerves may become pinched around the wrist area and result to carpal tunnel syndrome. While it is rare for patients to suffer from vasculitis, the condition is one of the serious complications associated with RA and can totally impair the supply of blood to the tissues and lead to necrosis or tissue death. In vasculitis, tiny black spots around the beds of nails or ulcerations of the legs are commonly visible. Treatments To date, there is no specific known treatment for rheumatoid arthritis. However, modern interventions have been directed towards reducing pain and inflammation of the joints and maximizing the functioning of the joints. With proper management such as X-ray monitoring, the damage to joints and improvement of joint functions can be achieved. A combination of medication, sufficient rest, joint protection, patient education and exercise to strengthen the joints has been proved effective (Clair, Pisetsky, & Haynes, 2001, p. 146). The treatment plan is not uniform among all patients but depends on the disease activity, general health of the patient, the age and occupation of the patient and the type of joints affected by RA. In all the treatment plans, there should be total cooperation between the patient, doctor and the family members. There are two main classes of drugs used in the management of RA: the first-line drugs or the fast-acting drugs and the second-line or the slow acting drugs. Among the first-line drugs include aspirin and corticosteroids such as cortisone which are used in the management of joint inflation and pain. Second-line or slow acting medications, also known as disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs (DMARDs) include agents such as methotrexate, hydroxycholoroquine and gold (Arthritis Foundation, 2010). These agents increase the chances for disease remission and prevent any progressive destruction of the joints but do not act as anti-inflammatory agents (Arthritis Foundation, 2010). Since the level of destructiveness from RA varies with individuals, treatment options also differ among individuals. For instance, patients with less destructive forms of RA can be advised to have sufficient rest or given analgesic or anti-inflammatory drugs to manage the condition. Second-line medications can be administered in a timely manner to improve the function and minimize joint destruction and disability within a short period following disease diagnosis. However, a great percentage of individuals suffering from aggressive form of RA require second-line drugs like methotrexate as well as the anti-inflammatory drugs. Different second-line drugs can also be given in combination regiment. In severe deformities of the joints, surgical procedure may be recommended to correct the deformities (Arthritis Foundation, 2010).

Life Is a Journey Speech Essay

Sometime you can just feel a person’s spirit around you. In many ways, we can see that the death of something does often leave some kind of impact, and as a result of this impact something about us inevitably changes. I’m sure we’ve all had to deal with a close relative or a friend passing away, and it’s not the easiest thing, but there’s so much to learn from it. I’ve never really had a reason to until my good friend Dominique passed away earlier last year. Its nuts that one-day we’re all sitting together sharing a few laughs, and the next day a member of our group is no longer with us. Dominique was one of the smartest and most compassionate people I knew. He’d always make sure others were comfortable and never put himself before others. And that’s part of the reason why his death affected me so much; it’s saddening to know that a person that has done so much good can pass away at such a young age. Granted it is saddening, we can only learn from the good he has accomplished. It was hard seeing someone go that moved through life with you like water (simile). But I learned a lot from it. About embracing moments. About taking chances. About never giving up. About gratitude. About me (alliteration). Life is a journey (metaphor). And I never really understood what that meant until Dominique passed. As an active member of his community and a student at University of Maryland, Dominique always had something to offer to others. He always counted his blessings and paid it forward. Which continually blew my mind; why is someone so young worried about giving back to others when he has so much life left to live? Especially after Dominique’s death, I’ve realized that we can go so unexpectedly. When most people hear this, they think of all of the things that they have not done yet, the places they want to go, the crazy stories they want to tell, but because of my friend Dominique, I am able to see there are far more important things to live your life by; like establishing good character, and having the ability to be selfless. I’m not saying this is easy, but it is something I believe everyone should strive for in life. We all go through struggles on a daily basis but should we give up or continue to bite our teeth and fight on. Every setback happens for a reason, and this is the best time to learn from our mistakes, correct them, and hopefully not make the same mistakes in the future. Learn something new and strengthen yourself. My favorite quality of Dominique’s was that he never expected, demanded, or assumed anything. He always gave people the benefit of the doubt, did his best, and controlled the elements that he could control. We’ve all heard the quote; â€Å"Things that don’t kill you will only make you stronger.† After every setback, bounce back and become stronger. He always fought like the courageous man he was (simile). We often don’t realize that our attitude determines our unhappiness or misery. He always taught me to become determined to stay positive. Circumstances will direct you, correct you, and perfect you over time; so whatever you do, hold on to hope. The last thing Dominique really opened my eyes to was that he was never afraid to get out of his comfort zone. He was never shy and always put himself out there. Sometimes, when you are too comfortable in your journey to success, you will not improve, and tend to become okay with where you stand. Dominique was a great example of someone who kept moving forward and wasn’t afraid of what he may run into. We’ve all taken the first step of getting out our comfort zone by signing up for SP CM 212. But we must keep in mind that it’s a work in progress and that nothing comes easy. Dom always tried to persuade me into doing something I wouldn’t normally do and to give everything a chance. Thanks to him we were able to share a few memories by going on multiple trips together. By following the same old routine we begin to bore those around us and even ourselves. I guess I never really understood why it was such a big deal that every minute lost was never coming back to us. Your minutes are the only thing on this earth that there’s a limited amount of. We tend to take death pretty hard and question why they had to go at such a young age. But maybe we’re doing it all wrong and should be remembering the great things that person accomplished and what they left us with. If you’re looking for a happy ending and can’t seem to find one, maybe it’s time to remember the great things. When I look back at my life I can see how perfect all has been for me to be right where I am today. And I’m sure that goes to for many of us here. Life is a mystery unfolding every moment! (metaphor). Some of the strongest people out there are the ones who laugh the hardest with a genuine smile and have gone through the hardest of hardships.

Commanding Heights Essay

†¢ Episode 1: The Battle of Ideas begs a comparison between socialism and capitalism. †¢ It traces the world’s economic history from the early 1900’s to the events following 9/11. †¢ Asks the question which is a better and more foolproof economic system government control or free markets? †¢ It delves into how the First World War impacted two brilliant economists, Keynes and Hayek. And then follows both Keynes and Hayek through their respective career paths (Keynes role as an advisor to the British Government on wartime economy and Hayek as an Austrian soldier). †¢ Keynes predicted that the result of the treaty of Versailles and demanding reparations from an already bankrupt Germany and Austria would cause another war, The Second World War. †¢ Meanwhile Hayek and his disciple Zlabinger fought against hyper inflation and encouraged free markets. †¢ Simultaneously the American Economy was booming, till October 24th, 1930 when the great depression hit and unemployment soared and industry stopped and half of the US banks were closed down. †¢ During this time Keynes’s theory of government intervention helped lead the way out of the problem (Keynes wrote about Macroeconomics). †¢ Meanwhile Lenin had introduced the New Economic Policy which consisted of grass root level capitalism but the commanding heights would still be under the government. The reform was met with scrutiny from the left, soon after Stalin took power and employed centralised planning of every economic aspect. †¢ Owing to the recovery from the Great Depression and Keynes’ key role in the Breton Woods Conference, in America Keynesianism took control and Hayek faded into the background. †¢ In Britain a welfare state and socialism built the country back from the bottom up. †¢ Newly independent countries like India also employed Keynesian methods, allowing for State led industry. †¢ One third of the world followed aspects of socialism until Churchill and Margaret Thatcher and Keith Joseph were influenced by Hayek’s book, ‘Road to Serfdom.’ †¢ In Germany, Ludwig Erhard stopped price control and re-started the free market economy to combat hyperinflation. The success of his risky decision led to the German Economic Miracle. †¢ While Keynes’ still had a strong hold over Washington, a Chicago School of Economics was created and it emphasised Hayek’s theory as a measure to battle stagflation. †¢ Finally Thatcher’s election and confidence in Hayek’s theory allowed for free markets to be established again. Thus, after a period of a century came back to where it was at the beginning of the century, back to free markets.

Impact On Teaching And Learning Practice Education Essay

This paper presents a reappraisal of the literature on schoolroom formative appraisal, or appraisal for larning. Several surveies have shown grounds that the frequent execution of formative appraisal schemes can give significant acquisition additions. Student perceptual experiences are considered along with an analysis of the formative schemes used by instructors in systemic attacks to learning. There besides follows a treatment on the nature of appraisal for acquisition and its deductions for the development of learning pattern.2. IntroductionAppraisal for acquisition is frequently referred to as formative appraisal, and can be defined in assorted ways. To help elucidation, the definition of formative appraisal used in this paper is meant to include: ‘all those activities undertaken by instructors – and by their pupils in measuring themselves – that provide information to be used as feedback to modify instruction and acquisition activities. Such assessment becomes formative appraisal when the grounds is really used to accommodate the instruction to run into pupil demands ‘ ( Black & A ; Wiliam, 1998b: 140 ) From this definition formative appraisal can be conceptualized as consisting of five cardinal schemes: 1. Clarifying and sharing learning purposes and standards for success ; 2. Engineering effectual schoolroom treatments and other larning undertakings that elicit grounds of pupil apprehension ; 3. Supplying feedback that moves scholars frontward ; 4. Triping pupils as instructional resources for one another ; 5. Triping pupils as the proprietors of their ain acquisition. ( Black & A ; Wiliam, 2009 ) The research into appraisal for acquisition has led to the development of a theory of formative appraisal which attempts to specify all formative interactions as those ‘in which an synergistic state of affairs influences knowledge ‘ ( Ibid: 11 ) . The get downing point of the work on formative appraisal that is described in this paper was the reappraisal by Black and Wiliam ( 1998a ) . This reappraisal covered a really broad scope of published research and provided grounds that formative appraisal raises criterions and that the assessment patterns of the period were weak. However, there seemed to be really few resources to assist instructors set the research findings into pattern. Partially in response to this perceived deficiency of aid, Black and Wiliam published the brochure Inside the Black Box ( 1998b ) , which served four chief purposes: aˆ? To give a brief reappraisal of the research grounds. aˆ? To do a instance for more attending to be paid to assisting pattern inside the schoolroom. aˆ? To pull out deductions for practical action. aˆ? To discourse policy and pattern ( Wiliam, 2011 ) . The reappraisal by Black and Wiliam ( 1998a ) involved analyzing reappraisals of research published up to 1988 and so look intoing through the issues of over 160 research diaries and books for the old ages 1988 to 1997 and their reappraisal drew on stuff from 250 beginnings. One of the precedences identified in measuring the research studies was to place and summarize surveies that produced quantitative grounds that inventions in formative appraisal can take to betterment in the acquisition of pupils. Since the publication of Black and Wiliam ‘s reappraisal at that place has been a greater focal point on issues environing appraisal for larning and their possible benefits to instructors and pupils in raising schoolroom attainment. In 2008 the DCSF published The Assessment for Learning Strategy which presented the characteristics and possible benefits of formative appraisal as shown in the image below ( DCSF, 2008:5 ) . It seems that there is now a consensus in many educational circles that assessment for acquisition is one of the most important, ways of raising attainment within schools. The purpose of this paper is to reexamine and critically analyze some of the most important grounds that has been gathered sing formative appraisal, and whether it warrants the focal point that is now being placed upon its usage by instructors and pupils in our schoolrooms today.3. Ethical motivesThe intent of this literature reappraisal is to analyze and measure the efficaciousness appraisal for larning schemes on bettering pupil attainment, and as such is designed to hold a positive impact on instruction and acquisition pattern, guaranting that learning and assessment clip is used every bit efficaciously as possible. As such, there are improbable to be any negative or harmful effects as a consequence of this paper. In its Ethical Guidelines for Educational Research BERA province that educational research aims to ‘extend cognition and apprehension in all countries of educational activity and from all positions ‘ ( 2011: 4 ) , and this paper will try to run into these hig h purposes. In conformity with the BERA guidelines attention will be taken, when reexamining surveies, to guarantee that the consequences are non used in any manner other than was intended by research workers, and that was made explicit to participants so as non to encroach upon the footings of voluntary informed consent, right to retreat and privateness afforded to them in the original surveies. The paper will see the context and methodological analysis of each research survey, and will merely include those which are deemed to run into the high ethical criterions laid out by BERA ( 2011 ) in their Ethical Guidelines for Educational Research.4. MethodologyChiefly quantitative research was considered and collated, across a assortment of instruction platforms, and in a assortment of parts of the universe, and so the research has been analysed harmonizing to the undermentioned standards, in order to help choice and reading: Focus – What was the intended focal point of the research? Context and coverage – Where was the survey undertaken? At what degree of instruction? How large was the sample size? When was the research completed? Where was the research undertaken? Perspective – Is at that place impersonal representation of the information or is at that place any prejudice toward a specific result? Methodology – How was the research conducted? Audience – What was the intended audience of the research? Findingss – Are the findings important and can they robustly support the decisions drawn? Impact – What is the impact of the survey and is it relevant to the reappraisal? Restrictions – What limitations or lacks exist in the research? Areas for future development – Does the research lead to farther countries that can or necessitate to be researched in future? Adapted from Randolph ( 2009 ) . Due to the sheer figure of surveies into the effects of appraisal for larning The trouble in executing this reappraisal was in choosing the most appropriate plants and research surveies that have been conducted and written to this point, and besides in collating the findings suitably. Student patterned advance and attainment can besides be measured in assorted ways, but an effort at synthesis has been made in order to supply the reader with utile and robust informations to back up the decisions of the paper. The undermentioned subdivision reviews the literature that was selected utilizing the above methodological analysis. The surveies chosen were all based on quantitative comparings of larning additions, and for being strict in utilizing pre- and post- trials and comparing of experimental with control groups. It is non implied, nevertheless, that utile information and penetrations about the subject can non be obtained by work in other paradigms.5. Literature ReappraisalIn this subdivision summarised histories will be presented of research which was selected and reviewed harmonizing to the standards outlined in Sections 3 and 4, and which illustrate some of the chief countries and issues involved in research which aims to procure grounds about the effects of formative appraisal. The first undertaking considered was a undertaking in which 25 mathematics instructors from Portugal were given developing in assorted methods of self appraisal during a 20 hebdomad educational class, which they went on to implement into their instruction pattern with 354 pupils aged between 8 to 14 old ages old ( Fontana & A ; Fernandes, 1994 ) . The students of an extra 20 instructors, who were taking a different class in instruction, acted as the control group. Both of the groups were given pre- and post- trials to find their degree of mathematics achievement, and both spent the same sum of clip in category on the survey of mathematics. Both groups showed important additions over the period, but the experimental group ‘s average addition was approximately twice that of the control group ‘s addition. The chief focal point of work was on regular self-assessment by the students, which involved learning them to develop a degree of apprehension of both the acquisition aims and the appraisal standards, giving them chance to take larning undertakings in which they had an involvement and utilizing undertakings which gave them the ability to measure their ain acquisition results. This research showed robust grounds of attainment additions when utilizing formative appraisal schemes. The writers of the survey reflected that extra work was required to look for long-run results and to research the comparative effectivity amongst the assorted techniques employed in together and in isolation of each other. In this survey the two outstanding elements found were the focal point on self-assessment and the execution of this appraisal. It was non conclusive that one or other of these characteristics, or the combination of the two, was responsible for the additions that were found. The 2nd illustration had its beginning in the thought of command acquisition, but departed from the mainstream political orientation in that the writers of the survey began with a belief that it was the frequent testing that would be identified as the chief ground for the addition in the acquisition accomplishments reported for this attack. The undertaking was an experiment ( Martinez & A ; Martinez, 1992 ) , in which 120 American college pupils in an introductory algebra class were placed in one of four groups, two experimental and two control groups. The experimental group were tested three times every bit frequently as the control group throughout the class and the consequences of a post-test showed a important public presentation addition for those tested more often over the less often tested control group. It could be questioned as to whether frequent proving truly constitutes formative appraisal and this inquiry would necessitate to measure the quality of the teacher-student interactions sing trial consequences and on whether trial consequences really could be considered as representing formative appraisal in the sense of it taking to step ining action taken to shut any spreads in public presentation ( Ramaprasad, 1983 ) . The 3rd survey reviewed here was involved formative appraisal schemes used in the instruction of kindergarten kids who were aged 5 ( Bergan et al. , 1991 ) . The writers of the survey held a thesis that focused attending to the early acquisition of basic accomplishments is indispensable for kids. The undertaking involved 838 kids drawn from largely disadvantaged place backgrounds in the USA. The instructors of the experimental group designed and carried out a measuring and planning system which required an initial appraisal input to be able to inform and act upon instruction pattern at the single degree, and further diagnostic appraisals to invariably supervise advancement and accommodate the instruction and larning throughout the 8 hebdomad period of its class. The instructors used chiefly the observations of accomplishments to measure advancement and attainment. At the decision of the survey, result trials were so compared with the initial appraisals of the same accomplishments. An alysis of the information showed that the experimental group achieved significantly. It is of import to observe, nevertheless, that of the control group, on mean 1 kid in 5 was referred as holding peculiar larning demands and the corresponding figures for the experimental group were 1 in 17 and so this may bespeak an country of failing in the reconciliation between control and experimental groups within this survey. Another illustration of research in this country involved work to develop an inquiry-based in-between school science-based course of study and was conducted by Frederiksen & A ; White ( 1997 ) . The learning class focused chiefly on a practical enquiry based attack to larning within a designated country of scientific discipline, and the work included 12 categories of 30 pupils across two different schools. The categories were taught to a strictly constructed course of study program in which scientific issues were explored through practical experiments and computing machine simulation, utilizing an enquiry rhythm theoretical account that was made explicit to the pupils. The work was carried out in collaborative equal groups, with each category being split into two halves. Half of each category acted as a control group utilizing parts of the lessons for the general treatment of issues environing the subject, whilst the other half acted as the experimental group and spent the same clip on structured collaborative treatment, designed to advance brooding appraisal, utilizing techniques such as self appraisal and peer appraisal of category presentations. All of the students involved in the survey were given the same basic accomplishments trial at the beginning and the same station trial to mensurate attainment and advancement. On the result tonss, the experimental group showed a important overall addition ; nevertheless, when the consequences were compared to the initial pre-tests it was found that pupils who ab initio scored lower, saw the biggest additions from the formative appraisal schemes implemented in the survey, with the highest ability pupils betterment was less pronounced. Amongst all the pupils in the experimental group, those who showed the best apprehension of and ability to implement the ego appraisal processes achieved the highest tonss.

BHS 455 (Computer & Information Systems) Module 2 CBT Essay

BHS 455 (Computer & Information Systems) Module 2 CBT - Essay Example One study by (Baggs & Schmitt, 1997) found several major positive outcomes form nurses and physicians working together, they were described as improving patient care, feeling better in the job, and controlling costs. In another study (Alpert et al., 1992) also found that collaboration among physicians and nurses led to increased functional status for patients and a decreased time from admission to discharge. The information that generally needs to be shared at Presbyterian Hospital mostly focuses on patient records and backgrounds. Both physicians and nurses must have access to patient medical records in order to know what to do to help the patient. Furthermore, both nurses and physicians need to also have access to the patient in order to meet and treat the patient. Physicians will usually make the final diagnosis on a patient, especially in the hospital. This is where some of the information between physicians and doctors may differ. While the physician interprets and makes the diagnosis most often, it us up to the physician to then provide that information to the nurse, so the nurse can take the appropriate steps with the patient.
